you know how you get given a zillion forms to complete and sign - all my medical history, my family's medical history etc.
well we get to the question of religion and i write "no religion".

It took me ages to tear up my blood card after I left... the last time I went to hospital which was about 8 years ago, I still put my religion down as JW, even though I hadn't been to a meeting in three years, just in case I needed a transfusion. My mother, who has an annoying habit of reading the files saw that, and was so happy - she told me that after seeing that, she had hope that I would return one day!
When the whole fractions thing started getting more and more confusing that I decided this was all a crock of shit and I would have a transfusion to save my life and that of my children's if it was ever necessary. That was when I chucked the card!
Str8 - that is a scary thought - I used to have visions of my mom and dad having screaming matches in a hospital over my rights to a blood transfusion.

Jaguarbass - If they are merely a pulp publishing corporation, lol, then how do they make their money - I know that they are not allowed to "sell" the mags anymore, just accept donations - do you really think that they make so much money from that?
In terms of money making, the property line of reasoning seems more viable to me...
so this afternoon, my folks came over to visit me - they dont visit often, but since i am at home this week recovering from my sinus op, they made the effort to visit.. we were chatting and drinking tea and the phone rang.
i got up and answered it and i was greeted by a friendly sounding woman named heidi, who told me she was doing a "christian volunteer work" and was just calling to share a "short message with me".
she talked about the lords prayer and how it's words are "thy kingdom come" and had i ever stopped to wonder what that kingdom was.
I live in a high security townhouse village (one has to if one one wants to retain their possesions in South Africa) so that is probably why they are trying the phone method - I very rarely see them trying to work this territory on foot!

Thanks for all the posts - you all have given me a lot to think about although I must admit that I generally try not to think to deeply about this sort of thing, I suppose my own little real life avoidance technique?
What resonated most with me was one of you mentioned the unwillingness to seek answers from within ourselves.
If it is the money and the power, then I feel like I need to be really angry, but if it really is that they are deluded and truly believe that they are God's only organisation, then I am sad!
The thing is, Lance, logic tells me that they have to know it is a lie, yet the fact is I have met enough real old souls at the South African Bethel to know that they truly believe, so why wouldn't the GB?
I guess we each have our individual ideas on what the truth behind the truth is...

We were talking today about one of those evangelists who came out here - they had credit card machines and were taking "tithes" of $1000 and more - now that is a shitload of money here! And people were just swiping their cards willy nilly. The dubs dont do that. Is it from the publishing?
